In the first episode of our short series called 'In Chains', we speak with Dr. Raphaël Lambert, Professor at the Department of British and American Cultural Studies, Kansai University, Kyoto. Prof. Lambert is the author of the Brill book Narrating the Slave Trade: Theorizing Community.
Prof. Lambert offers a glimpse into slavery and subjugation through the prism of community. He discusses Tamango and Roots, the artificiality of racial identification, race and patriotism, as well as slavery and capitalism.
